Women not to wear headscarves or shoes during the Eyo festival in Lagos State.


Lagos Monarch, Oba Rilwan Akiolu II revealed the Dos and Don'ts of the upcoming Eyo Festival one of which is that women should not wear headscarves or shoes around the masquerades during the festival.



The king spoke at a press conference at Ilupesi Square on Lagos Island where he was represented by the Olumegbon of Lagos, Chief Fatai Lawal. The monarch outlined the dos and don’ts of the festival warning that Lagosians should not wear shoes while women must not use headscarf around the vicinity of the masquerades. He said the Eyo Festival was being held “as part of the Lagos@50 celebrations to honour illustrious sons of Lagos including His Royal Highness, the Late Elegushi of Ikate, Oba Yekinni Elegushi (Kusenla II) and the deceased Co-Chairman, Lagos@50 Committee, Mr. Rasheed Gbadamosi.”
He said the procession would take off at the Iga Iduganran to culminate at the Tafawa Balewa Square where the various Eyo groups would be on parade and promised adequate security.
