Many feared dead as church building collapses in Akwa Ibom

Tragedy struck on Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital when a church building belonging to the Reigner Bible Church along Uyo village road collapsed killing scores and wounding several others.
 The church building   which collapsed at about 11 am on Saturday during a special service organized to mark  the ordination of its resident pastor  Akan Week as Bishop.
An eyewitness told our correspondent who was at scene of the disaster that the Church was filled to the brim when the building collapsed.
He said over one hundred worshipers were trapped under the debris as rescue team evacuate the dead and the injured.
A member of the church who craved anonymity, said he was in an adjoining building to buy pure water when the building collapsed, saying that “I heard a large bang and the next thing I saw was that the building just collapsed with worshipers trapped inside.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who was expected to attend the occasion, but was not at the church when it collapsed was seen helping with the rescue operation.
Meanwhile many victims of the unfortunate incident have been taken to various hospitals and mortuaries in the town.
