A female food vendor named Uduak Monday has been remanded in Afokang prison in Calabar, Cross River State for bathing her ward, Okon Nse with hot water for sleeping when he ought to be awake doing chores.
The incident took place on November 24 around 5:30 am leaving the poor boy with burns to his face and arms. A neighbour of the accused woman noticed the burns on the child's face and alerted a child rights organisation in Calabar known as Basic Rights Counsel Initiative. The organisation alerted the police and pushed the matter to court.
During the court sitting last Thursday, the magistrate, whose name could not be immediately ascertained, turned down Uduak Monday’s bail application and remanded her in prison until the next adjourned date of December 9.What wickedness!!!
