Looking at the picture, one would think it to be a mother taking her baby to safety away from the Islamic State-held area of Mosul. Moments after this picture was taken, the woman blew up herself and her child as her bag contained an explosive device.
The moment was captured by an Iraqi TV station named al-Mawsleya TV by a cameraman who said the woman must have tried to detonate the bomb when she walked close to the soldiers but the device did not go off until she had walked some distance away. The TV station did not realise the interesting action they had caught on camera until they checked the footage later on.
The woman was blown up alongside her child while two soldiers and several civilians were injured. The Isis group now cornered in the tiny square of a little historic city have resorted to sending female bombers to mix up with civilians and detonate explosives. This has made identifying the female bombers a bit difficult as the culture in Iraqi does not permit women being searched or asked to lift up their clothes like men do. These female bombers have also resorted to using their children as human shields making it difficult for the army to launch airstrikes.
Jihadist brides were mostly stay at home brides but are beginning to be active in the war and are reported to be as brutal as the men. They also serve as hisba (morality officers) who ensure that the females adhere to the Jihadists strict dress code whipping those who do not adhere.
