Two banks set ablaze as trailer drivers protest the killing of their colleagues by a trigger-happy cop attached to one of the banks.

Branches of Diamond bank and Sterling bank located along Burma road in Apapa area of Lagos State were burnt down by irate trailer drivers while protesting the killing of fellow drivers by a police officer attached to the Diamond bank branch. According to reports, the drivers had parked their vehicles in front of the bank and were ordered to move them by the police officer.

This led to an altercation between the drivers and the policeman who then brought out his gun and shot the drivers dead on the spot. The police man allegedly shot into the air and ran into the Diamond bank branch. The other tanker drivers mobilised and demanded that the bank hand over the policeman to them to face jungle justice. The refusal of the bank caused the drivers to burn down both bank destroying properties and valuables worth millions of Naira.
Men from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Anti-Riot Squad and Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft were deployed to the scene to calm the situation.
