Junior Pupil in Lagos School attempts to poison his classmate for taking first position.

A 12-year-old boy at the High-Profile Lekki British International School, Lekki, Lagos has allegedly tried to poison his classmate with acid from the school laboratory. According to reports, the boy was envious of this 11-year old girl who joined the school two weeks to the start of the session and topped the whole class in the first and second term.

Aggravated by her success and to prevent her from topping the class a third time, the boy sneaked into the laboratory on June 14, just before the third semester exams and was filling the girl's water bottle which he had stolen from her bag with a very poisonous mixture of acids when he was apprehended by some pupils.
The school management was informed and the boy allegedly owned up to his deeds confessing that he had been planning it for a long time. The boy disclosed that he initially wanted to put excreta in her juice but the juice was always covered and she later stopped bringing juice to school.
Members of the girl's family are reportedly fuming because the culprit was allowed to sit for the third term examination and was only punished with a week's suspension with reference for psychatric an psychological test.
Whilst they have withdrawn her from the school, the family of the girl have made known their plans to sue the institution for gross negligence as the boy was not punished, was allowed to sit for exams and their daughter was made to write and apology letter to the boy by the school owner "for provoking the boy into the act"
A member of the girl's family spoke with Punch Metro as follows:
"She joined the school about two weeks into the commencement of the first term and she did well during the first and second terms.
“But unknown to her, this particular boy was after her life.  On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, around 1.30pm, they went on a lunch break. The boy took her water bottle from her bag and poured out the water in it.
“He went to the toilet and poured the acid into the water bottle. Two other pupils walked in at that point and queried him on what he was doing. He begged them not to tell anybody, but the boys told her and she informed the school authorities before calling her parents.
“Initially, we were told that the owner of the school was not around. The following Monday, the mother was told that the boy would be given a week suspension after their exams.
“The shocking part is that by the next day, the owner of the school called the girl into her office and asked her to write an apology letter, saying that she provoked the boy into the act.”
She explained that the incident traumatised the 11-year-old.
The mother was said to have withdrawn her from the school, just as the offender allegedly sat for the exams.
“We are planning to sue the school for negligence. If the school management is claiming that the boy has been expelled, when did that happen? Was it after he completed the exams and now that the school is about to vacate?”
