Parents of pupils of the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla from where six children were kidnapped on May 25, have shown solidarity to affected parents by having their wards sit at home. The parents told pressmen that their actions is in support of the parents whose children where abducted and to express their disappointment in the government for not having rescued the children 25 days after.
After the hostile kidnap, the school went under lock and key and was only reopened on June 5 but some parents have refused having their kids come back to classes. The parents accused the Lagos State government of being non-chalant and indifferent towards the plight of affected parents.
On May 25, ten children where abducted from the school and taken to the waterside where they had a waiting boat. After asking the children questions about their backgrounds, four children were released. The kidnappers demanded N1bn but later came down to N100m. The parents sent N10m to the kidnappers who are now demanding a further N40m to release the children.
Lagos State government and the police have repeatedly assured the parents that all hands are on deck to ensure the children get back home safely. Security around the school has been beefed up with Close Circuit Cameras and 24 hours surveillance.
*How about other schools? They definitely won't strike one school twice now, would they?
