Mrs Sonia Chikwendu Fani-Kayode was on monday detained by EFCC at a branch of Access Bank at Ado-Ekiti at about 15.00hours. Mrs Fani-Kayode allegedly went to Ado-ekiti to visit her husband's trusted friend, Governor Fayose of Ekiti State and stopped by the branch of the bank in the state capital to make withdrawals when she was detained by bank officials.
The bank officials told her she was being held on the instructions of the EFCC. Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, spokesperson of the anti-graft agency said the ex-minister's wife tried to withdraw funds from an account frozen by EFCC.
Governor Fayose reportedly sent thugs who barged into the bank and forcefully secured the release of Mrs. Fani-kayode. It is reported that Governor Fayose claimed that EFCC had no right to detain anyone in his state and threatened to shut down the branch of the bank.
The said account which presently holds about two million naira was reportedly frozen when the EFFC commission traced about N1.1bn to the bank account of Mr. Fani Kayode
The account is said to be registered with two BVN numbers belonging to Mr. Fani-Kayode and Mrs Sonia Fani-Kayode
