Fans of super eagles gathered at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport to welcome the team and officials after a 2-1 victory against Zambia in Ndola, when plain-clothed policemen tried to whisk away the Chairman of League Management Company, Shehu Dikko.
As the crowd drew close to find out what warranted the harassment of Shehu, one of the so-called police men pulled out a gun and shot into the air. Pandemonium broke out as the fans and players scampered to safety. Officials of the Nigerian football federation including President Amaju Pinnick pleaded that they should not set a bitter end to the 2-1 victory they just recorded against Zambia.
Dikko had been declared wanted by a Federal High Court sitting in Jos who ordered the LMC to suspend the Nigerian League and reinstate Giwa FC which filed the suit pending the determination of the suit before it. But the LMC filed an Appeal as well as a stay of execution.
